Class is in Session!

For my final project I chose to do a Syllabus for summer session 1 to introduce the topic of the financial wage gap between men and women. I felt as though this was most suitable for me because it allowed me to educate myself on a topic I wasn’t fully knowledgeable in. Although I won’t be actually teaching anyone what is on the syllabus but it was more learning for myself and hopefully for to whoever who does give it a look.

Project Plan- Wage Gap between Men and Women

Project format: A syllabus

My project will be around the financial wage gap that is between men and women no matter what their occupation is. Time and time again us women have to fight extra hard just have our seat at the table like men. Regardless of a women’s credentials (education background, work history) it may not be enough because so many are fixated that “this is a man’s world” when in reality it isn’t the case.

Intersectional Analysis

The person I chose for my intersectional analysis is Montero Lamar Hill better known as Lil Was X. Lil Nas X is an American hip hop artist and songwriter who made his official debut in 2019 when his song “Old Town Road” was released. Being apart of this generation and in the music industry it can be tough trying to be who you want to be rather than being who others may want you to be. Lil Nas X set the bar high when he came out as gay while his hit single was #1 everywhere. Lil Nas X proofed not only to himself but to so many young people and others who look up to him that they can be true to themselves no matter what others may have to say about you because none of that matter unless you are true to yourself.

Gender, Identity and Intersectionality

It’s funny how when we are born we are automatically assigned to a specific gender (boy or a girl). And the expectation that is expected once you’re told your gender is that you live up to credentials. For me I know growing up in the Caribbean they take gender identity a bit seriously because of the lack of knowledge that they have towards gender identity. Many people don’t understand why it’s important to allow someone to be who they want to be without being forced to be who they are told they are.

What is Gender?

Now the “simple” definition behind the word Gender (male or female) doesn’t really symbolize the true definition of the word for many people.

In not only today’s society but for several years people decided not to identify themselves as the scientific term of the word gender but to break the chain and just learn how to be true to themselves. Gender identity I feel can only be determined within ones self. No one can necessarily give a firm answer on what exactly is gender. Although, many may feel as if gender is the same thing as identifying someone’s biological sex it doesn’t mean someone may feel that way. When someone announces their gender identity it’s them feeling liberated and free to be whoever they want to be without having the by laws of biological sex or how society may feel to deter them from being and feeling like themselves.

It’s pretty difficult to give a clear definition of what gender is, but it is a way to allow people to embrace who they really are without the use of the labels given to us.
