For this assignment I am choosing a character from the show Good Trouble that airs on free form. This series is about sisters who navigate the adult world after they graduate college and get into their respective careers. The person that I am focusing on is a character called Mariana. Mariana was an adopted child into a huge family and she is also of Mexican heritage. In her workplace she was an app developer and this field is dominated by white men. Mariana’s intersecting identities is that she is a woman, she is a minority, and she is an engineer. This relates to power and privilege because she is not respected at work and her ideas are ridiculed by her coworkers. She is not respected because of all of her identities that go into each other anywhere she goes whether it is socially or in the workplace. Her multiple identities are an asset because it makes her diverse and ensures that she doesn’t have a paroquial view or mindset on things but they also limit her from being as successful as she should be or is capable of being.

First of all Maisat, I really like this show! I wish I thought of this. example but I’m so happy that you were able to mention this example. Mariana always struggled with the fact that she wished that she was more Mexican since she wasn’t really raised in a household with people from a Mexican background. However, the people around her, her family tried to do a quinceanera for her so that she could feel closer to her culture. Also, in her work place, she is surrounded by white men who tend to be focused on more while she tends to be ridiculed which isn’t fair. This really is a good example of intersectionality so great job!
