My project topic is on how often women actually have abortions compared to how much society actually talks about abortion. In the news and media, there always seems to be talk of abortion. Whether its bills and laws being passed about it, new emerging updates, or the hot debate of pro-choice versus pro-life. With all of the engagement and coverage the subject of abortion gets, one would assume it is happening at rampant and spiking rates. Data shows that abortion rates have been in a significant decline for a while now. Yet, the way the topic is constantly finding its way in the news and media, it is easy to think that women are still having lots of abortions. 

I chose to share my data results that I found from Google’s Ngram Viewer when I typed in the word ‘abortion.’ Google’s Ngram Viewer is an online search engine that charts the frequencies of any set of search strings using a yearly count of n-grams found in sources printed between 1500 and 2019. In addition, I shared reasons why the abortion rates have been so low.
