My topic is how often women have abortions versus how often society talks about abortion. In order to understand this topic, I need to know statistics on how often women are having abortions with a time period of as far back as I can go. In addition, I need to know how often abortion is being spoken about. This can be from media coverage as well as printed sources. Since this is the topic I am exploring in-depth, this information will aid me in contextualizing and discussing this subject. My project relates to Women’s Gender Studies because abortion is a procedure that women get if they choose to. I can also take a look at abortion resources available online and see how widespread and available it is. The different facets of my project include contemporary and past news/events, all media coverage that speaks on abortion, and specifically women gender. With contemporary and past news/events and media coverage, I will see that they were covering abortion and also the frequency.
I love that someone is doing a project on abortion because it isn’t talked about as much and the people in power that do speak about it is men, not actually women who get the procedures. The more it is talked about, the more safe and comfortable women feel when making a choice during pregnancy.
