In modern days, identities are more open to discussion and thus, there are more identities to be classified as. The trend seems to decided by society and what is expected in those times. Most identities involving gender tend to be managed more as the topic is extremely controversial.

What is gender?
Gender is what a complex topic that varies upon all places of the world. Different genders are mostly universal. Society sees gender as mainly male or female but many societies have adapted to considering other genders. Some societies do not approve of such unbiological genders while some are already considering or in the process of considering different genders. The roles of gender are used as identification and society expects different things from each gender.
Gender relates to power in the sense that some genders are considered more seriously, hence more power is given to them. Female genders typically have more issues and the reason is because of the historic past. Females are seen in the past as inferior and much of that has been pasted onto now but it is starting to change. The ones that benefit from this difference are other the genders. Society mostly controls which gender is legitimate because they are ultimately the reason for disapproving or approving of such genders.
There could be many genders as gender is used an identification. It can be seen as a name, unique to one but can also be shared amongst others.
